Not only is online inbound marketing effective, but offline inbound marketing is, too!
Not too long ago I was I shopping at Express. When it came to leave, the checkout clerk put my bag full of cool clothes on top of the upper checkout counter ledge with the bag’s bottom facing me. It’s there I noticed two white boxes on the black bag. One was promoting their Facebook page and the other wanting me to follow them on Twitter. This was the first store I’ve seen promote their use of the social media kings.
I’ll say Express’ use of offline inbound marketing worked. I’m a fan of their Facebook page; what can I say, I love their clothes. And, I’m a Twitter follower.
Now only if I can see other stores can do the same – advertise on their already pre-printed shopping bags. Maybe the receipts, too, if they know the customers actually look at/save them.
UPDATE: Driving home last night I saw across a car’s back windshield (upper part out of the driver’s line of sight) someone’s twitter name written in glass paint. The only problem was the name was a weird combination of letters and numbers; couldn’t even remember the correct combination after I passed them on the freeway to look them up.
